Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin’s parents are a good example that Muggle/wizard romance can work, but sometimes events can complicate things. Lyall Lupin and Hope Howell met when Lyall rescued Hope from a Boggart. How very ‘Lupin’ of him!

Turns out this was an excellent ice-breaker for a very happy marriage, and eventually they had a son together, Remus.

Lyall had a run in with the werewolf Fenrir Greyback during his time at the Ministry for Magic. Greyback took his revenge by biting Remus, transforming him into a werewolf and leaving him to a lifetime of exclusion.

The couple knew the stigma attached to their son’s condition, so they educated him at home and moved from place to place to avoid having to answer difficult questions. Remus did get to go to Hogwarts in the end, where he met his future best friends.

Remus Lupin

We loved Remus. And although he will always be a household favourite, his ‘furry little problem’ of being a werewolf seemed to hold him back his entire life. Attacked by Fenrir Greyback when he was only a child, he ended up spending his youth being moved from location to location never making friends or connections – so that his lycanthropy would not be discovered.

When he was allowed to attend Hogwarts, Remus finally made friends who accepted him for who he was – only to have two of them brutally killed thanks to the betrayal of another.

Although Remus picked himself up and bagged a gig as Hogwarts professor, his wolfish ways always served as a simmering source of anxiety for the poor guy. He ended up resigning from a job he was really good at, and dithered during his relationship with Tonks, spending half of the time worrying about being a werewolf rather than actually enjoying falling in love. After Remus finally seemed to have found peace, and his worries about his baby being a werewolf were unfounded, he and Tonks both fell at the Battle of Hogwarts. This one still hurts.

Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin, il più amato di tutti gli insegnanti di Difesa Contro le Arti Oscure, è stato anche uno dei più tragici. Condannato fin da piccolo a trasformarsi in un lupo mannaro durante ogni luna piena, Lupin era ciò che il suo nome suggeriva: simile a un lupo. Lupin viene dal latino "lupinus", che si può tradurre con "lupino"; ed è anche il nome di una serie di fiori a punta ma vivacemente colorati, chiamati Lupini. In America, queste piante erano così chiamate perché venivano considerate dannose per il terreno: affamate come lupi nel consumare le risorse. Invece, in Portogallo quest'aspetto veniva considerato come un vantaggio, e queste piante venivano usate per soffocare le erbacce. Per il nostro professore, sia la maledizione del lupo mannaro che la sua assoluta dedizione nell'estirpare il male definivano la sua personalità, come il suo cognome.
Remus, invece, viene dalla mitologia Romana, e il portatore originario del nome era il fratello di Romolo, figlio di Marte e uno dei fondatori di Roma. E' stato anche cresciuto da una lupa...

Il capitolo che ci ha fatto innamorare di Remus Lupin

Un personaggio sicuramemte molto amato dai fan.
Anche io me ne sono innamorata leggendo il terzo libro. Poi, be', è arrivato il quarto libro con la scoperta che Severus era stato un Mangiamorte e, ammetto, lì ho perso la testa, puntando al 100 per cento sul suo pentimento
Ma torniamo a Remus, al supposto "dolce" Remus e al cioccolato.
Ma anche, e soprattutto, al Remus dilaniato dalle colpe notturne d'essere un lupo mannaro dagli incontrollabili istinti (e lì, sulle rispettive colpe, è nata "Solo amicizia" una mia super vecchissima fanfiction. Entrambi (Remus e Severus, ovvio!) hanno colpe alle spalle. Chi per dannazione (Remus) chi per tremenda scelta (Severus): tra chi, se non loro, poteva nascere una ferrea amicizia di cui la Rowling ci ha privato?.

La scena del Moliccio è sicuramente una delle più riuscite (nel libro e nel film... povero Severus!)
