My husband is a US Customs officer in a major metropolitan airport. He meets and has to escort celebrities, athletes, diplomats through the airport. He’s met A LOT. Most are incredibly kind, some are assholes Jess*ca Chasta*ncough
He doesn’t understand why people ask to take pictures, they’re allowed to in uniform but must remain professional. He doesn’t even like to get too personal with them, he thinks they appreciate it more than being fawned over. One time he was helping Braun Strowman at the kiosk and told him to watch his hands. He liked the joke. One other time though he recognized a voice and looked up, it was Alan Rickman. He said my wife would be freaking out right now, Harry Potter saved her life. My husband said he’s more of a Dogma fan and Alan Rickman told him the wings he wore were 80lbs. When they were finished he said, “Tell your wife I said hello.”

Il bacio negato

In 2012 I met Alan Rickman in NYC when he was doing the play Seminar. I was outside the stage door. I had such a crush on him and my brain went out the window and I said "Mr Rickman can I get a kiss on the cheek?"

I was horrified when I realized what came out of my mouth. I said I was sorry and nervous and he chuckled and said "I think I'm a bit too old for you as it is" (I was in my mid 20s) and he signed an autograph for me which I still have.

And that is why I'd keep quiet if I met Tom. I'd say something stupid that I'd instantly regret

I think Alan was so nice for being kind about it. I guess maybe he could tell I was mortified .

I met Alan Rickman twice. It was 2011, I was working (barely) as a writer by this point, and I was in and out of New York City for professional and illicit reasons alike. A play I was writing that would never see the stage led me to meet a friend at a small bookstore. My friend never showed up, he was too busy being arrested, but I waited in that bookstore, browsing old mysteries. Alan Rickman came in and managed to be somewhat anonymous. It helped that maybe 5 people were in the shop.

Stopping people to talk to them is something I don’t do anymore. I don’t want to invade their space or their time, I don’t want to interrupt or be dismissed and have my view of them diminished as a result. But I had just seen him on Broadway in Seminar, and I wanted to thank him for the portrayal of Leonard, the writer who led this writing seminar. It was the stage version of what I was doing, and I felt compelled to tell him so. So I did.

He was gracious and kind, and I wasn’t interrupting or wasting his time I said. We didn’t talk very long, because I had no idea what to say, and he thanked me for seeing the show and taking the time to say hello. He was nice, and he made me want to be nice.

Some weeks later, I had seen Seminar a second time, and was uptown at a party I didn’t want to be at, pretending to be interested in people I was never going to be interested in, and really wanted to be anywhere else in the world. As I scrambled for a polite way to get my coat (I guess it never occurred to me that I could just ask for my coat), there was a bit of a flurry, and Alan Rickman, with his wife (they weren’t married then, just together) came in. They didn’t stay very long, but it was my second meeting.

Again, he was nice. He remembered me. He asked me how my friend was, and how I was. He asked how the writing was going, I told him I was thinking about giving it up and finding a desk job. He listened, and after a moment said, “Oh please don’t. What you’re doing is important and good and worth it. Get your voice out there.”

Which I wasn’t expecting. I think I was expecting this great actor to pat my shoulder or shake my hand and dismiss me. He didn’t. He went on to tell me that it’s important to do what you love, and that sticking with what you’re doing matters. I don’t remember crying, but I do remember thanking him. I cried later when I got home.

Era la versione teatrale di quello che stavo facendo e mi sentivo in dovere di dirglielo. E così ho fatto.

In ogni caso, tra un pub e l'altro a Londra siamo riusciti a fare un paio di cose turistiche. Una di queste consisteva nel partecipare a una passeggiata di Shakespeare e Dickens attraverso alcune zone di Londra. L'idea di base del tour era quella di visitare i luoghi in cui i due autori hanno trascorso del tempo o di percorrere le strade e i siti che compaiono nelle loro opere. Anche se di solito detesto questo tipo di attività, ho apprezzato la conoscenza che la nostra guida ha apportato alla passeggiata. Inoltre, il gruppo era piuttosto piccolo, il che lo ha reso molto meno turistico, almeno per me.

Nessuno gli rivolse una parola, e noi tre mantenemmo la calma e cercammo di assumere quell'atteggiamento distaccato e distaccato. Dopo un po' Rickman scomparve nel traffico intenso delle strade londinesi e non lo vedemmo più.

Naturalmente, tutto questo accadeva molto prima che Rickman ottenesse il lavoro della sua vita interpretando Piton nei film di Harry Potter. When I was in Toronto over the Summer, I was at Soma chocolates in the Distillery Building. It was empty except for a man kneeling down in front of the display case of chocolates. I didn't pay much attention and I began to browse. I ended up next to the man as I wanted to look in the case as well. At one point he actually bumped into me. A salesperson comes from the back room and asks the man if he needs any help. He replies, "No, not right now" in somewhat of an irritated tone. Now, I am a movie person and I am very familiar with actors (everyone is called a "celebrity" or "movie-star" these days) Especially actors with VERY DISTINCTIVE voices. I was taken aback. I felt blood rushing to my head as I said to myself, "That sounds just like Alan Rickman!" I KNEW it was him. (Who else has that voice?!) I snuck a peak and sure enough, I was banging elbows with one of MY favorite actors. (Even if other people have never heard of him) I wanted to play it cool. I mean, he is just a person after all. I wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to say anything, so I didn't. After a moment he began giving his order. There were 4 of the Balsamic Vinegar chocolates left and he asked for all them - But then he turned to me and said, "Unless this young lady wants some." With my face feeling as if it was on fire and I was hoping it didn't look just as red, I replied that no, it was ok. About 30 seconds went by and I realized what just happened. I DID want the chocolate. That is one of the reasons I came there! I saw it online I said, "Oh, was that the Balsamic Vinegar? I did want that actually." He said to give me 2 but I told him I only wanted 1. He said, "Well, it might be so delicious that you will be upset to only have 1." I said that he had a point and took 2. I forget how everything happened, but somehow he was still choosing what he wanted and I suggested something to him by saying it looked good. (I do that - not just to celebrities I am just that way) but he didn't think it looked good. (It was dark bitter chocolate - I love it, but it is a required taste) ...

Then -this is the funny part- after he was finished with the order the sales guy asked if it was a gift. He really looked as if he was going to start wrapping it and Mr. Rickman looked very uncomfortable like he just wanted to leave already and said, "No" He hurried and paid and left. - This is FUNNY because as I was watching that take place I was immediately reminded of the character he played in "Love, Actually" (The part where he is trying to hurry and buy a gift and the sales guy is making a BIG PRODUCTION about wrapping it going on and on. (Those who saw the movie will get the humor in this)...

Ho dato un'occhiata di nascosto e di sicuro mi trovavo a fare a gara per della cioccolata con uno dei MIEI attori preferiti. (Anche se gli altri non l'hanno mai sentito nominare) Volevo fare finta di niente. Voglio dire, dopo tutto è solo una persona. Non ero sicura che fosse una buona idea dire qualcosa, quindi non lo feci. Dopo un attimo cominciò a ordinare. Erano rimasti 4 cioccolatini all'aceto balsamico e li ha chiesti tutti - ma poi si è girato verso di me e ha detto: "A meno che questa signorina non ne voglia un po'". Con la faccia che mi sembrava in fiamme e che speravo non fosse altrettanto rossa, ho risposto che no, non c'era problema. Passarono circa 30 secondi e mi resi conto di quello che era appena successo. Volevo davvero il cioccolato. È uno dei motivi per cui sono venuta lì! Quando l'ho visto online ho detto: "Oh, era l'aceto balsamico? In effetti lo volevo". Mi ha detto di darmene 2, ma io gli ho detto che ne volevo solo 1. Mi ha risposto: "Beh, potrebbe essere così delizioso che ti dispiacerebbe averne solo 1". Dissi che non aveva tutti i torti e ne presi due. Non ricordo come sia andata, ma in qualche modo lui stava ancora scegliendo quello che voleva e io gli ho suggerito qualcosa dicendo che sembrava buono. (Lo faccio, non solo per le celebrità, sono proprio così), ma lui non l'ha trovato buono. (Era cioccolato fondente amaro - lo adoro, ma è una questione di gusti)...

Poi - questa è la parte divertente - dopo aver finito l'ordine il commesso ha chiesto se era un regalo. Sembrava davvero che stesse per iniziare a incartarlo e il signor Rickman sembrava molto a disagio, come se volesse già andarsene, e ha detto "No". - È buffo, perché mentre guardavo questa scena mi è venuto subito in mente il personaggio che ha interpretato in "Love, Actually" (la parte in cui cerca di sbrigarsi a comprare un regalo e il commesso fa una gran scena per incartarlo, continuando a farlo). (Chi ha visto il film capirà l'umorismo di questa scena)...

RICORDO DI UN MEMBRO DELLA TROUPE

Since people are really curious about Rickman, I worked with him on Love Actually and later in a movie called The Promise, and the donuts he brought were a mix of glazed, chocolate twist, and rainbow sprinkle because he knew a guy's little girl was coming to work that day. Yes, Alan Rickman brought donuts for a little girl he didn't even know. Also, we got him to say that if we didn't admit who ate the last donut, "we would all be found...e...qually guilty."
I was just an aid to the lighting department really, but since that wasn't a huge job I got to do a lot of different odd jobs, like fixing up stuff on set and grabbing make up for the stylists who were busy...like the one working on Rickman.

Dato che le persone sono molto curiose di conoscere Rickman, ho lavorato con lui in Love Actually e in seguito in un film intitolato The Promise, e un giorno, ha portato un mix di ciambelle glassate, al cioccolato e con spruzzi arcobaleno perché sapeva che la bambina di un membro della troupe sarebbe venuta al lavoro quel giorno. Sì, Alan Rickman ha portato delle ciambelle per una bambina che nemmeno conosceva. Inoltre, siamo riusciti a fargli dire che se non avessimo ammesso chi aveva mangiato l'ultima ciambella, "saremmo stati trovati tutti e...qualmente colpevoli".

Can point out that it's extremely hard to get a photo with Mr. Rickman. I don't think he likes doing them to be honest. After "Seminar" would let out each evening he was very nice and would sign something for everyone, but no pictures. Then he just walked down the street took a right onto 8th ave and was on his way. I noticed this trend, and one night I was planted there for after the show let out and when he rounded the corner I was like "Wow! Mr. Rickman! I'm a huge fan!" (acting like I was surprised to see him). "Would you mind If I got a quick photo?" His response: "if you can walk and do it."


Posso far notare che è estremamente difficile ottenere una foto con il signor Rickman. Non credo che gli piaccia farle, a dire il vero. Dopo l'uscita di "Seminar" ogni sera è stato molto gentile e ha firmato qualcosa per tutti, ma niente foto. Poi camminava per la strada, girava a destra sull'Ottava Avenue e se ne andava. Ho notato questa tendenza e una sera ero lì piantato dopo l'uscita dello spettacolo e quando ha girato l'angolo mi sono detto: "Wow! Signor Rickman! Sono un suo grande fan!". (facendo finta di essere sorpreso di vederlo). "Le dispiace se faccio una foto veloce?". La sua risposta: "Se riesci a camminare e a farlo".

A me piace tantissimo quest'ultimo con il ragazzo che inscena un finto incontro casuale e Alan lo sfida a fare una foto mentre cammina.😂😂

A few years ago, a friend of mine was in Chicago at a bookstore. As he was leaving, he noticed that someone was coming in and held the door open. As soon as he realized it was Rima, he immediately looked up to see Alan coming through the other door, looking inward in Rima's direction. My friend was impressed, and as Alan approached, continuing to follow Rima, he made to say something. But he quickly clamped his mouth shut because Alan looked him steadily in the eye and said, "Do NOT say ... a word." He admitted that he was a little taken aback at the attitude, but he did as Alan had said. Alan continued through the rows of shelves. My friend waited a few seconds,and continued to watch the scene. Alan silently approached Rima, frowning at her in surprise from behind, putting a hand on her shoulder and making her turn around. She was very surprised to see him there and put her hands on his arms to greet him, and they both laughed together and began to chat.
My friend had risked ruining the surprise Alan had given Rima!


Qualche anno fa, un mio amico si trovava a Chicago in una libreria. Mentre usciva, notò che qualcuno stava entrando e tenne aperta la porta. Non appena si rese conto che si trattava di Rima, alzò immediatamente lo sguardo per vedere Alan che entrava dall'altra porta, guardando all'interno in direzione di Rima. Il mio amico rimase colpito e, mentre Alan si avvicinava, continuando a seguire Rima, fece per dire qualcosa. Ma si tappò subito la bocca perché Alan lo guardò fisso negli occhi e gli disse: "NON dire... una parola". Ammise di essere rimasto un po' interdetto per qull'atteggiamento, ma fece come Alan aveva detto. Alan proseguì attraverso le file degli scaffali. Il mio amico attese qualche secondo,e continuò a guardare la scena. Alan si avvicinò silenziosamente a Rima, cogliendola di sorpresa alle spalle, facendola voltare. Lei fu molto sorpresa di vederlo lì e gli mise le mani sulle braccia per salutarlo, entrambi si misero a ridere insieme ed iniziarono a chiacchierare.
Il mio amico aveva rischiato di rovinare la sorpresa che Alan voleva fare a Rima!

You are right! I didn't post the source! I found it this morning on twitter, on a user's page. I will try to find it again tomorrow. I was wandering around and spotted this tweet going from user to user so now finding it again is a bit tricky, since I do everything from my phone and clear the cronology to free up memory space...sorry.
