Abraxan Horse - Big winged beasts. (vol. 5, p. 437)
Aragog - A spider that was given to Hagrid when it was still an egg. Very loyal to Hagrid, because Hagrid protected Aragog when he was accused of killing a girl.
Basilisk - A fearsome and deadly monster also known as King of the Serpents. Possesses a murderous stare which kills from a beam of light from its eyes; speaks Parselmouth; lives in the Chamber of Secrets and uses the plumbing to get around. (vol. 2, p. 290)
Blast-Ended Skrewts - They smell like rotten fish and look like deformed shell-less lobsters, pale and slimy looking with no heads. The legs, about six inches long, stick out in odd places. They are propelled by sparks that come out of an end, which causes the skrewts to blast off. The females suck blood; the males sting. (vol. 4, pp. 196-197)
Boggart - A shape-shifter; is able to take the shape of whatever we most fear. It is repelled by laughter. (vol. 3, p. 133, vol. 5, p. 176)
Bowtruckles - Small twig-like creatures who guard trees of high quality used to make wands; eat wood lice or fairy eggs; if angered by humans they will gouge out their eyes. ( vol. 5, p. )
Buckbeak - Hagrid's pet Hippogriff. (vol. 3, p. 113)
Common Welsh Green - Type of dragon found in Britain.
Cornish Pixies - Naughty little fairies that create havoc.
Dobby - A house-elf; servant of Lucius Malfoy, whom Harry eventually frees.
Doxy - Flying household pests that bite with sharp poisonous-teeth; a fairy-like body covered in black hair and shiny beetle-like wings; they inhabit Order of the Phoenix Headquarters. (vol. 5, pp. 85, 103)
Dragon - Mythical reptilian creature that can fly and breathe fire.
Errol - The Weasley's owl.
Fang - An enormous black boarhound that belongs to Hagrid.
Fawkes - A phoenix, the size of a swan with magnificent crimson and gold plumage and a gold beak; belongs to professor Dumbledore. It rescues Harry from Tom Riddle and the serpent, and heals Harry's wounds from the serpent's fangs with its tears. (vol. 2, p. 315, vol. 4, p. 582)
Firenze - A centaur (half man/ half horse) living in the Forbidden Forest. White-blond hair, "astonishing blue eyes." Took over Sybil Trelawney's Divination classes after Umbridge fired her. Banished from the Forbidden Forest by the other centaurs for agreeing to work for Professor Dumbledore. (vol.5, pp. 598, 602)
Flobberworm - Species of worm that Harry and his friends have to keep alive to pass the Care of Magical Creatures course.
Fluffy - Monster dog with three heads, three pairs of eyes. (vol. 1, p. 160)
Grindylow - A small, horned, sickly green water-demon with sharp little horns, long spindly fingers, pointed fangs. (vol. 4, p. 495)
Griphook - Goblin at Gringotts Bank.
Hebridean Black - A breed of wild dragon found in Britain.
Hedwig - Harry's owl; a gift from Hagrid.
Hermes - Name of Percy Weasley's owl. (vol. 5, p. 96)
Hinkypunk - Small one-legged creature who looks like he's made from wisps of smoke; lives in bogs and swamps; wanders about at night with lantern to lure lost travelers into the swamps.
Hippogriff - Body, hind legs, and tail of a horse; front legs, wings and head of a giant eagle; orange eyes. Buckbeak, Hagrid's pet, is a Hippogriff.
Kappa - Monkey-like creatures that live in water and strangle people who invade their territory.
Kreacher - Sirius's house-elf who lives at the Order of the Phoenix Headquarters at Number 12 Grimauld Place; sleeps under the boiler in a kitchen cabinet His ambition is to have his head cut off and stuck on a plaque like his mother did. Mountain Troll - A 12-foot tall creature who causes Ron and Harry to become friends with Hermione. (vol. 1, p. 174)
Norris, Mrs. - The cat (who becomes petrified) owned by Argus Filch, the caretaker at Hogwarts.
Nagini - A giant snake, whose milk is used to nourish Lord Voldemort. (vol 4, p. 7)
Norbert - Norwegian Ridgeback dragon belonging to Hagrid. (vol. 1, p. 234)
Peeves - a poltergeist.
Pigwidgeon - Also known as "Pig." A miniature owl that belongs to Ron. (vol. 4, p. 57)
Ronon - Centaur in the Forbidden Forest.
Red Cap - Goblin-like creature found in places where bloodshed has occurred. They lie in wait to bludgeon the lost.
Scabbers - Ron Weasley's pet rat, who is really Peter Pettigrew. (vol. 3, pp. 58, 348)
Tenebrus - First Thestral born in the Forbidden Forrest; Hagrid's favorite (vol. 5. p. 447))
Tibbles, Mr. - Mrs. Figgs' magical cat. (vol. 5, p. 20)
Trevor - Name of Neville Longbottom's pet toad.
Winky - A female house-elf who works for Bartemius Crouch and is given her freedom. She then gets a job at Hogwarts. (vol. 4, p. 379)

Norwegian Ridgeback - Breed of dragon that is very rare. Hagrid had one as a pet.
Thestrals - Large winged horses with reptilian heads and long black manes that can only be seen by people who have had a loved one die. The superstition is that they are unlucky, but they really are clever and useful. They have an amazing sense of direction; classified by the Ministry of Magic as dangerous; Hogwarts has a herd of them; usually will eat birds but Hogwart's thestrals are trained by Hagrid not to attack owls. (vol. 5, pp. 358, 446-447, 449, 762)
Veelas - The most beautiful women; not human; they have moon-bright skin and white-gold hair that fans out behind them, even when its not windy. They have the power to hypnotize anyone who looks at them. (vol. 4, p. 103)
